A Padua Hills Theatre Wedding Day, Hour by Hour

Mariana & Danny's real timeline · Claremont

What a Day at Padua Hills Really Looks Like

A venue tour shows you a space when it is empty. This guide shows how Padua Hills Theatre works on a real wedding day, using the schedule from Mariana and Danny's September 12, 2025 wedding. Together for 15 years since meeting in a community college math class, they kept the whole day on the hill in Claremont: getting ready at the venue, a first look and letters in the olive grove, a 6:00 PM ceremony under the wrought iron gazebo in the Plaza Courtyard, family photos on the sunset terrace and a reception with mariachi, glow sticks and a limo send off. Each step below pairs their timeline with the space it happened in, the photo spots we used and what we would tell any couple planning a Padua Hills wedding.

3:30 PM · Details and Getting Ready at Padua Hills

Vendors were allowed on site at 3:30, and Mariana and Danny arrived at the same time, so the afternoon started right at the venue. We photographed the flat lay first: the invitation, round wire glasses, a pocket watch and the rings in a moss-filled cage. Mariana got ready in the bridal suite, whose brick porch, clay tile roof and green-trimmed windows make an easy backdrop for robes and the gown reveal. If your suite opens to the porch like this one, hang the dress outside in open shade.

3:30 PM · Danny Gets Ready

Danny dressed in the groom's room, with its leather wingback chair, wood floors and big windows. His mom Maria Angeles pinned on his boutonniere, and we took the two of them out to the terrace for a portrait with the foothills behind them. Keeping the guys on site meant no travel time eating into the schedule.

Before 5:30 PM · First Look and Letters in the Olive Grove

With guests arriving at 5:30 and a 6:00 ceremony, every portrait had to happen before the gates opened. Mariana walked down the brick path through the olive grove to Danny, and they traded letters under the trees. The grove is the best afternoon light at Padua Hills: the canopy filters the sun, the path gives a clean line for a long veil, and it is close enough to the suites that nobody loses time walking.

Before 5:30 PM · Couple Portraits Under the Olive Trees

We stayed in the grove for couple portraits right after the first look. Backlight through the olive branches lit up Mariana's cathedral veil, and the stone fountain at the edge of the grove gave us one more setting without moving far. Plan about 20 minutes here; it is the most photographed spot on the property for good reason.

Before 5:30 PM · Wedding Party on the Hilltop

Mariana's bridesmaids wore mixed shades of emerald and sage, which sat beautifully against the dry chaparral and foothills on the edge of the property. A small wedding party keeps this block quick, so there was time for the fun shots: bouquets in the air and Danny dipping Mariana while everyone cheered.

5:30 PM · Guest Arrival and the Plaza Courtyard

Before guests arrived at 5:30, we photographed the ceremony space empty: the wrought iron gazebo dressed in white drapery and greenery, white chairs on the brick under the olive trees, a gold mirror welcome sign and a Polaroid guest book. Mariana and Danny chose an unplugged ceremony, with the officiant letting guests take one photo as the couple reached the altar before phones went away. Put the empty-space photos on your timeline. Once guests are seated, the clean shots are gone.

6:00 PM · Ceremony Under the Gazebo

Mariachi Antiguo de México played as guests found their seats. Danny walked out from the lobby with his mom and took his place on the right side of the gazebo, the wedding party followed, and Mariana came down the courtyard steps with her dad. They read short vows and presented white roses to the Virgin Mary. Afterward they signed their license privately in the Olive Grove with their witnesses and took about 15 minutes alone, a small pause we recommend to every couple.

6:30 PM · Group Photo and the Sunset Terrace

Right after the recessional, everyone gathered at the top of the courtyard for one group photo with every guest, then cocktail hour opened until 7:15. We took family portraits on the sunset terrace, where the railing looks out over the canyon. Padua Hills faces west from up on the hill, so this is where the evening light is warmest.

7:15 PM · The Reception Room Reveal

Guests were seated for dinner at 7:15 in the theatre's main room, with its wood floors, chandeliers and a stage at the far end. Mariana and Danny set place cards with handwritten notes and photos for every guest, a sweetheart table wrapped in white florals, their monogram projected on the screen and a dessert table of pan dulce. We photographed the room while it was still empty, since the stage lighting turns everything lavender once the party starts.

7:40 PM · Grand Entrance and First Dance

Mariana and Danny came in at 7:40 and went straight into their first dance while a slideshow of their 15 years together played on the projector. Bubbles filled the room during the dance. Going right from the entrance into the first dance keeps every guest's attention on the floor at once.

7:44 PM · Parent Dances, Welcome Speech and Mariachi

Mariana danced with her dad, gave her bouquet to her mom, and Danny shared a dance with his mom. Danny's dad passed away in 2018, and the room went quiet in the best way. The couple then gave a short welcome speech, and Mariachi Antiguo de México took the stage for dinner service at 7:55.

8:55 PM · Cake and Reception Games

They cut a heart shaped vintage cake at 8:55. Instead of a bouquet toss and garter, Mariana tossed an empty Stella Rosa bottle and Danny tossed an empty tequila bottle with the garter around it, and the winners took home full bottles at the end of the night. A group photo of every guest on the dance floor came right after.

9:15 PM · Glow Sticks and Open Dancing

The dance floor opened at 9:15 and glow sticks went out to every guest. With their monogram projected on the wall and the stage lights cycling through pink and purple, the party ran until the last song at 10:55.

Late Night · Olive Grove Night Portraits and Limo Send Off

We stepped back into the olive grove for a few night portraits with a light behind the couple, which turns the tree canopy into a glowing tunnel. Then Mariana and Danny walked out under the covered entry, light up sneakers and all, to a white limo waiting at the curb. If you love this look, save five minutes for it; it is one of our favorite frames at Padua Hills.
