A Calamigos Ranch Wedding at Birchwood

Nhi and Shogo met in college, where they shared a major, joined the same clubs and became good friends before they started dating. Shogo has since turned Nhi into a gamer, so most weekends are spent gaming together, with pickleball for him and crafting for her. They celebrated on August 14, 2026 at Birchwood at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, in a palette of light sandalwood, pastel green and white. They said their vows beneath the tall eucalyptus trees of the Birchwood ceremony garden, then celebrated on the Birchwood deck under the oaks. Getting Ready at Calamigos Ranch

Nhi got ready with her mom, who wore a navy ao dai, in a bright suite with tall black framed windows. Shogo got ready on a wooden deck tucked into the oaks, where his mom, in a purple kimono, fixed his collar before photos with his groomsmen. Their details set the tone for the day: his and her vow books and custom illustrated pins of the two of them.

A Garden First Look at Birchwood

They saw each other for the first time in the Birchwood ceremony garden before any guests arrived. Nhi came down the wooden garden stairs and tapped Shogo on the shoulder, and his reaction when he turned around says it all. A first look here gives a couple the whole garden to themselves before the chairs fill.

Portraits Around Calamigos Ranch

Calamigos Ranch is full of photo spots within a short walk of Birchwood. We took Nhi and Shogo through the wisteria tunnel, down the bamboo path, across the wooden bridge and under the green iron arches strung with twinkle lights, and they kept each other laughing the whole way.

Wedding Ceremony at Birchwood

The Birchwood ceremony site sits beneath tall eucalyptus trees, with a stone aisle and white floral pillars by Flowever Decors. Shogo walked in with his parents, and Nhi came down the stairs with her mom, who placed her hand in Shogo's at the altar. Their friend Emily officiated, there were happy tears during the vows, and the afternoon sun broke through the trees just in time for the first kiss.

Golden Hour at the Carousel and the Lawn

As the sun went down, we brought them to the vintage carousel and the open lawn by the tipis, with the Malibu hills behind them. These are two of our favorite golden hour spots at Calamigos Ranch.

Reception at Birchwood

Dinner was on the Birchwood deck, which is built right around the oak trees, with crystal chandeliers and string lights hanging overhead. Tables were set with sandalwood linens, mint napkins and white florals, and guests found signature cocktails at the bar and an illustrated guest book. Nhi and Shogo made their entrance through the twinkle light arbor, then their friends gave toasts that had the whole deck laughing.

First Dance and a Packed Dance Floor

After dinner the couple shared their first dance, followed by the bouquet and garter toss. Then Invisible Touch Events opened the dance floor, and Shogo's friends ended up lifting him onto their shoulders.
